Basketball Recap: Excel Christian Academy Takes a Loss

On Saturday, the Excel Christian Academy Eagles came up short against the Pinecrest Academy Paladins and fell 65-55.

When it comes to explaining why Excel Christian Academy lost, don't look at Kaiyu Huffman. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 12 on his way to 17 points in addition to five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Vieira, who posted nine points.

Pinecrest Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Michael Lynch, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Lynch a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Joe Frain, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 boards.

Excel Christian Academy dropped their record down to 8-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Pinecrest Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.

Excel Christian Academy will venture away from home to take on Praise Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Excel Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Praise Academy likes a good challenge. As for Pinecrest Academy, they will welcome Cherokee Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pinecrest Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.8 points per game this season.
