The Westlake Demons will challenge the Nordonia Knights at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Westlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Westlake was able to grind out a solid win over Wadsworth, taking the game 7-2.
Ethan Thompson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Thompson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Ryan Camden looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Thompson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Andrew Nash, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Gavin Mcmillen was another, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Nordonia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Brecksville-Broadview Heights. On the bright side, the three- run effort marked the Knights' highest-scoring game to date.
Nordonia also got a good showing from Steven Fakult, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Westlake is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Nordonia, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Westlake's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's match. The Demons have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Nordonia, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Westlake continue to outrun the ball?
Westlake skirted past Nordonia 5-3 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Do the Demons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
