Baseball Game Preview: Staley Falcons vs. Platte County Pirates

Staley is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Platte County is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Falcons will welcome the Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Staley 2.5, Platte County 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Staley had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Park Hill on Wednesday. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Trojans. Considering the Falcons have won three contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jackson Fatheree looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Easton Phillippe, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, one run, and one double. Those RBI were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Carter Schaunaman, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Platte County owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Wednesday. They came out on top against Liberty North by a score of 5-0.

Staley's win bumped their record up to 10-0. As for Platte County, their victory bumped their record up to 7-0.

Staley came out on top in a nail-biter against Platte County in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Falcons repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
