Softball Recap: Watertown Victorious

The third road match was the charm for Watertown, as they earned their first away win of the season. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles on Thursday. Five seems to be a good number for the Arrows as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Alexa Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Alayna Dettmann was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Lauryn Hirsch was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Watertown lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory got Watertown back to even at 2-2. As for Aberdeen Central, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Looking ahead, Watertown will square off against Tea at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Arrows are facing the Titans at the right time seeing as the Titans are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Aberdeen Central, they will take on Pierre T.F. Riggs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
