Basketball Recap: Permian Gets Big Win over Higher-Ranked Abilene

Permian won the last time they faced Abilene and things went their way on Friday too. The Panthers managed a 60-55 victory over the Eagles. The win was all the more spectacular given the Panthers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 648th, while the Eagles are ranked 303rd).

The victory made it two in a row for Permian and bumps their season record up to 6-10. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.5 points over those games. As for Abilene, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Permian will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Hobbs at 3:00 p.m. on January 3, 2026. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Eagles have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. Abilene will take on Aledo in a holiday battle at 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
