Baseball Game Preview: Woodinville Falcons vs. Newport - Bellevue Knights

The Woodinville Falcons will head out to square off against the Newport - Bellevue Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Woodinville is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since March 12th on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Lake Washington 3-2.

Levi Grothen looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Woodinville let Braden Perry and Andrew Hennessy run wild. Perry went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI, while Hennessy went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most hits Perry has posted since back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, Newport - Bellevue hadn't done well against Eastlake recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Knights came out on top in a nail-biter against the Wolves, sneaking past 3-2.

Newport - Bellevue saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Freytag, who scored a run while going 1-for-2. Yuma Noda also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

The victory got Woodinville back to even at 6-6. As for Newport - Bellevue, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-8-1.

Woodinville's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. The Falcons have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Newport - Bellevue, though, as they've been averaging only 0.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Woodinville continue to outrun the ball?

Woodinville came out on top in a nail-biter against Newport - Bellevue in their previous matchup back in March, sneaking past 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
