Baseball Recap: Calhoun City Wins Going Away Against Noxubee County

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Hamilton, Calhoun City was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They never let the Noxubee County Tigers get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory. That 20 run margin sets a new team best for the Wildcats this season.

Jayden Brand was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-2. Those stolen bases marked the first that he stole this season.

In other batting news, Calhoun City got a massive performance out of Jacob Williams, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Williams also put up a run, which was his first of the season. Zawon Edwards was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Calhoun City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .792. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win got Calhoun City back to even at 4-4. As for Noxubee County, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Calhoun City will welcome Mantachie at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Mantachie has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.43 runs per game on average), something Calhoun City will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Noxubee County, they will challenge Enterprise at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
