Basketball Recap: Cairo Takes a Loss

Cairo played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 66-40 to the Westover Patriots. The Syrupmakers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-17.

Among those leading the charge was Greg Williams, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. He is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jalen Holmes, who posted eight points along with five boards and five steals.

Cairo's defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Westover, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-4.

Cairo won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Miller County at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Cairo is facing Miller County at the right time seeing as Miller County is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Westover, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll challenge Terrell County at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Westover's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.
