Basketball Game Preview: Olean Huskies vs. Fredonia Hillbillies

Olean and Fredonia are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Olean Huskies will face off against the Fredonia Hillbillies at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Olean will come in still looking for their first win of the season.

Olean's tournament run continued when they took on Warren on Saturday. Olean fell 61-49 to Warren.

Meanwhile, Fredonia ended up a good deal behind Allegany-Limestone on Friday and lost 56-39. While losing is never fun, the Hillbillies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 349th, while the Gators are ranked 70th).

Olean will have to contain Donovan Dowdy as he made an impact in Fredonia's last game. He went 6 of 12 on his way to 16 points in addition to five boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Colin Luce, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Fredonia has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season. As for Olean, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Olean came up short against Fredonia in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 62-55. Thankfully for Olean, Davion White (who went 7 of 12 on his way to 22 points and seven rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
