Basketball Recap: Orangeburg-Wilkinson Comes Up Short

If Orangeburg-Wilkinson was feeling good fresh off their 42-14 takedown of Battery Creek on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Orangeburg-Wilkinson Bruins took a 52-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hanahan Hawks on Saturday. The Bruins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2016.

Despite the loss, Orangeburg-Wilkinson saw an underclassman step up: freshman De'Leon Steward went 7-for-15 en route to 18 points. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for Steward.

Bri Johnsen was nothing short of spectacular for Hanahan: she went 7-for-16 on her way to 19 points and seven steals. The dominant performance gave Johnsen a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Camdyn Lawson, who posted 11 points and five boards.

Orangeburg-Wilkinson's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 14-5. As for Hanahan, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Orangeburg-Wilkinson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 51-19 loss against Oceanside Collegiate Academy on the 4th. As for Hanahan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 37-25 win against Battery Creek on the 4th.
