Basketball Recap: Jake Mooney and Trey Carlson Secure Win for Russell

Russell won the last time they faced Ellis and things went their way on Monday too. The Russell Broncos had just enough and edged the Ellis Railroaders out 51-48. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Broncos.

Russell was led to victory by Trey Carlson and Jake Mooney. Carlson dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Mooney went 5 of 8 on his way to 15 points. Carlson is becoming a predictor of Russell's success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is 4-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Thielen, who posted eight points.

When it comes to explaining why Ellis lost, don't look at Jaren Frickey. Despite the final result, he put up ten points. Another player making a difference was Trenton Schartz, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Russell is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Ellis, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-9.

Russell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-52 defeat against Plainville on the 4th. As for Ellis, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Trego at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
