Softball Recap: West Catholic Has No Trouble Against Comstock Park

West Catholic came out on top against Comstock Park on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run third inning. The Falcons put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 16-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won five in a row.

Alaina Markules made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. Markules was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cate Sanders was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Empie, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

West Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

West Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Comstock Park, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Looking ahead, West Catholic will host Pewamo-Westphalia at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Falcons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for Comstock Park, they will head out to take on Kelloggsville at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
