Talented Tigers have looking to bring home school's ninth state title.
Katy (Texas) has been one of the most consistent programs in high school football since 2000, making the third round of the playoffs in 18 consecutive years. The Tigers have won at least 10 games in each season since Gary Joseph took over the program in 2004.
He's gone 213-21 during his tenure, winning four state titles (2007, 2008, 2012, 2015). If he can lead the Tigers to their ninth state championship in school history, it would tie Aledo for the most all-time in Texas among 11-man football.
The Texas power begins the season ranked at No. 8 in the
MaxPreps Top 25 and opens Sept. 26 at Clear Springs (League City).
Bronson McClelland is back under center and will be the leader on offense. Expect 2021 Texas A&M commit
Fernando Garza to be one of his favorite targets in 2020. The multi-sport standout is one of the best all-around tight ends.
Brandon Campbell, a 2021 USC commit, transferred to Katy in the spring but
announced in August he was going to forego his senior season and prepare for college and enroll early at the University of Southern California. Joseph and the Tigers will still have plenty of depth at running back led by
Jalen Davis.
Defensively, Katy is loaded with future Power 5 players, led by Class of 2022 standout
Malick Sylla. He checks in as the No. 3 weak-side defensive end among all juniors on 247Sports.
The second level will be a strong suit for the Tigers led by a couple of three-star recruits in
Ty Kana and
Shepherd Bowling.
