John Paul II Catholic dropped their record down to 11-8 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Greenfield Knights by a score of 6-5. The Saints were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Knights earlier this season, when they won 5-2.

Luke Perry was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Greenfield, they pushed their record up to 14-3 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

On Greenfield's side, Simon Quinn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Quinn has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Tristan Stancil was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.

John Paul II Catholic will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Grace Christian at 6:00 p.m. on the 28th. As for Greenfield, they will take on South Range at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
