Baseball Recap: Tyner Academy Takes a Loss

Tyner Academy had lost eight straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-16 to make it nine. They came up short against the Sequoyah Chiefs, falling 15-5. The Rams were not able to make up for their defeat to the Chiefs from their previous meeting back in April of 2023.

As for Sequoyah, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-15 record. The result was nothing new for the Chiefs, who have now won seven contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

For Sequoyah's part, Dru Sasser was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Sasser is becoming a predictor of the Chiefs' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-15 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Maddox Jones, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Tyner Academy is taking a road trip to square off against Lookout Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sequoyah, they will welcome Heritage at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
