Basketball Game Preview: Greenville Hornets vs. Gentry Rams

The Greenville Hornets will head out to take on the Gentry Rams at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Greenville is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.

Greenville is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Cleveland Central on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Greenville was outmatched by Cleveland Central and fell 61-30. The game marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from A'Tavius McChristion, who posted nine points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Gentry was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a 67-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Holmes County Central. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Jaguars are ranked 43rd).

Gentry's loss dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Greenville, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-8.

Things could have been worse for Greenville, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 54-37 loss to Gentry when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Greenville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
