Basketball Recap: Stevenson Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Cooper Olin and Kekoa Williams

Stevenson lost against Watsonville back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Stevenson Pirates fell to the Watsonville Wildcatz 68-62. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Stevenson's loss came despite strong showings from Kekoa Williams and Cooper Olin. Williams dropped a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds, while Olin posted 26 points and seven boards. Williams is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for four straight games. Derek Diniz was another key player, putting up five points and six assists.

Even though they lost, Stevenson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive matchups.

Max Aceves continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Watsonville, going 6 of 14 en route to 20 points. Aceves' evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Leon Madec, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 15 points and seven boards.

Stevenson's defeat dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Watsonville, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Stevenson has already played their next game, a 54-46 win against Marina on the 31st. As for Watsonville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 81-55 victory against Monte Vista Christian on the 31st.
