Baseball Game Preview: Pickering Red Devils vs. DeQuincy Tigers

Pickering is 0-10 against DeQuincy since March of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Pickering Red Devils will face off against the DeQuincy Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Pickering has given up an average of 18.6 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Pickering is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 13th straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of East Beauregard.

Meanwhile, DeQuincy had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 14-4 margin over the Wildcats. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.

Turner Rodriquez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, DeQuincy got a big performance out of Nolan Schrader, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Hayz Hext was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

DeQuincy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 11.2.

DeQuincy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pickering, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-12.
