Basketball Recap: Whitmire Wolverines vs. Ware Shoals Hornets

The Whitmire Wolverines's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. The match between them and Ware Shoals wasn't particularly close, with Whitmire falling 36-22. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Whitmire of the 45-17 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

Whitmire's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trystan Samples, who scored five points along with five rebounds and three blocks. Samples has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Brooklynn Babb was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

Ware Shoals was led to victory by Tailynn Smith and Stella Eichorn. Smith scored ten points along with five rebounds, while Eichorn dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 rebounds. Eichorn is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last nine games she's played.

Whitmire dropped their record down to 2-16 with that loss, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Ware Shoals, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Whitmire will take on the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ware Shoals, they will be playing at home against the Blue Flashes at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Calhoun Falls Charter will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.
