Basketball Recap: Jamari Murphy's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Riverside-Durham over Person

Riverside-Durham was the 50-37 winner over Person when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Riverside-Durham Pirates fell just short of the Person Rockets by a score of 44-41 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 386th, while the Rockets are ranked 40th).

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jamari Murphy, who posted ten points and five rebounds. Darryn Johnson was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Riverside-Durham and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Person, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

Riverside-Durham wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 49-43 defeat against Hoggard on the 20th. As for Person, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-44 win against Cedar Ridge on the 20th.
