Cardinal Gibbons came out on top against Athens Drive on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Crusaders blew past the Jaguars 8-1. The result was nothing new for the Crusaders, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Bridget Mazzo, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Kelly, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Cardinal Gibbons kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 10-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Sanderson came up short against Enloe on Wednesday, falling 13-5. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by exactly eight runs.
Sloane Thorpe was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Cardinal Gibbons' win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Sanderson, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12.
Sanderson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cardinal Gibbons hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. It's a different story for Sanderson, though, as they've only averaged .224. Will they be able to contain Cardinal Gibbons' hitters?
Everything went Cardinal Gibbons' way against Sanderson in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Cardinal Gibbons made off with a 7-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crusaders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
