Baseball Recap: Crestview Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Crestview, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the New London Wildcats on Friday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 6-5 back in April.

Drew Spoerr was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two RBI.

In other batting news, Crestview got a massive performance out of Kayn Patton, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Patton is becoming a predictor of the Cougars' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 4-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tyson Ringler, who went 1-for-4 with five stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Crestview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Crestview's record is now 8-12. As for New London, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Coming up, Crestview will head out on the road to face off against St. Paul at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Flyers have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. New London has already played their next matchup (against Mansfield Senior), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
