Baseball Recap: Clarion Area Extends Road Winning Streak to Six

Clarion Area had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Greenville Trojans. This was payback for the Bobcats, who suffered a 7-6 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Derek Smail made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Clarion Area's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Hayden Weber was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April.

Clarion Area pushed their record up to 12-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Greenville, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clarion Area will face off against Grove City at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Greenville, they will challenge West Middlesex at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
