Lexington Catholic and Scott County squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Lexington Catholic had to settle for second. They lost 10-3 to the Cardinals. The Knights' loss signaled the end of their ten-game winning streak.
Abby Hammond was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 21 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
Hammond wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lilly Hawthorne, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Lexington Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Scott County, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 24-5.
Lexington Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Scott County, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 7-3 win against Madison Central on the 28th.
