Volleyball Recap: Lilanny Reyes- Mendoza Leads a Balanced Effort to Beat Elite

Trinity Prep won the last time they faced Elite and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Crusaders were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Eagles. The Crusaders not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since September 23rd (when they won 3-0).

Not only was the match a shutout, it was a big one: Trinity Prep took every set by at least 15 points. The match finished with set scores of 25-10, 25-6, 25-8.

Trinity Prep's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lilanny Reyes- Mendoza, who had eight aces. Those eight aces gave Reyes- Mendoza a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tabitha Gunning, who had seven aces and one assist.

They weren't the only good servers: Trinity Prep was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 27 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 18 aces in four consecutive matches.

Trinity Prep has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Elite, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Trinity Prep didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against North Hills Christian on the 16th. As for Elite, they are taking a road trip to challenge Fortune Early College at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
