Bobcats sweep Pearland Dawson behind Kylie Kleckner, Ashlyn Seay, Sophee Peterson and Savannah Sterna.

No. 1 Byron Nelson (Trophy Club) completed the mission Saturday and won its second straight Texas state title, beating Dawson (Pearland) 25-18, 25-17, 25-19 to win the Conference 6A Division 1 crown.

The victory is the 78th in a row for the Bobcats over two seasons and marks only the second time a Texas school has gone unbeaten and won consecutive state titles in the highest classification.

Against Dawson, Washington commit Kylie Kleckner hammered 21 kills and Rice commit Ashlyn Seay added 11. Texas A&M pledge Sophee Peterson had 35 assists and 13 digs while Savannah Sterna had a team-high 14 digs for the Bobcats.

Byron Nelson was in control of the first set as back-to-back kills from Kleckner opened up an 18-13 edge before the seven-point set win.

In the second set, the Eagles hung tough with the reigning national champions. Dawson took a 14-13 lead and forced a Byron Nelson timeout at 15-13 Eagles.

The message from coach Brianne Groth worked as Byron Nelson closed the set on a 9-0 run, capped by a Kleckner ace.

Dawson again led in the third set, 10-9, before Byron Nelson closed the match on a 16-9 run.

Avery Koonsen led Dawson with 16 kills wile Taylor Ranney had 14 assists and Alexa Koonsen added 13 assists.

Byron Nelson started the season at No. 1 in the MaxPreps Top 25 and never faltered, running the table while winning tournaments in Hawaii as well as at home in Texas. The Bobcats dropped only four sets all year and were never forced to go the distance in a best-of-five match.
