Softball Recap: Hazard Snags Ninth Victory in Last Ten Games

Hazard hadn't done well against Wolfe County recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs skirted past the Wolves 4-2. This was a revenge game for the Bulldogs / Lady Bulldogs: when they faced off against the Wolves back in April, they had to take a 8-0 defeat.

Peyton Fields spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Heidi Jones and Mallory Combs did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI, while Combs went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Combs has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.

Hazard has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Wolfe County, their loss dropped their record down to 22-11.

As of now, neither Hazard nor the Wolves have any future games scheduled.
