Baseball Game Preview: Green Mountain Rams vs. Air Academy Kadets

The Green Mountain Rams will head out to take on the Air Academy Kadets at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Green Mountain will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Green Mountain proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by seven) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past Pomona 7-6.

Green Mountain got a great performance from Caden Kelly as he struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Kelly has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hudson Burke was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Simon Lunsford was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Green Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Air Academy faced Cheyenne Mountain in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Kadets fell just short of the Red-Tailed Hawks by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Kadets have suffered against the Red-Tailed Hawks since June 5, 2021.

Air Academy saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Santiago Graniel, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Green Mountain pushed their record up to 6-3-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Air Academy, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Green Mountain has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Air Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
