Baseball Recap: Nelson Beats Gresham for Their Third Straight Win

Nelson won against Gresham on Tuesday with nine runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Nelson blew past Gresham 9-2. The result was nothing new for Nelson, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Justice Diaz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brody Austin, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Stephen, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases and two runs.

The win was the third in a row for Nelson, bringing their record up to 8-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Gresham, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-10.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Nelson is set to face off against their familiar foe Clackamas at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Nelson 3.5, Clackamas 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Gresham will challenge rival Barlow at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
