Baseball Game Recap: Wilbraham & Monson Academy Titans vs. Pomfret School Griffins

Wilbraham & Monson Academy extended their losing streak to 11 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-11 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 12-0 to the Pomfret School Griffins, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Titans fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Griffins since on Wednesday.

As for Pomfret School, they now have a winning record of 8-7. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

For Pomfret School's part, Carson Ames was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Ames also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pomfret School is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Ames was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Pomfret School got a great performance from Ryan Flynn as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Flynn also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Griffins are 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-6 otherwise.

Back at the plate, Mason Gordon was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Matt McClure, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Coming up, Wilbraham & Monson Academy will take on Canterbury School at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Saints' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Titans' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Pomfret School, they will welcome St. Mark's at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
