Softball Game Preview: Bridgeport Bulldogs vs. River Pilots

The Bridgeport Bulldogs will face off against the River Pilots at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. River took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Bridgeport, who comes in off a win.

On Wednesday, Bridgeport earned a 7-2 victory over Valley. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.

Hanna Brewer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in triples (two).

In other batting news, Rowyn Herman was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Addie Snodgrass, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, River didn't have quite enough to beat Shadyside on Wednesday and fell 2-1.

Bridgeport's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for River, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Bridgeport might still be hurting after the 11-3 loss they got from River in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
