Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Salem

Salem lost to Plymouth back in February, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Wednesday. The Salem Rocks secured a 40-34 W over the Plymouth Wildcats. The win was all the more spectacular given the Rocks' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while the Wildcats are ranked 73rd).

Plymouth's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Johnson, who posted seven points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Annie Flavin, who scored nine points.

The victory got Salem back to even at 12-12. As for Plymouth, their loss dropped their record down to 15-8.

Looking ahead, Salem will take on Belleville in a tournament on Friday. Belleville will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Salem surely won't give up without a fight. Plymouth does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
