Teutopolis and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Wooden Shoes will be playing in front of their home fans against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Teutopolis is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Teutopolis' offense. They fell just short of Flora by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Wooden Shoes' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Alyssa Tipton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was able to grind out a solid win over Central A & M on Wednesday, taking the game 8-3. Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg hasn't had any issues with Central A & M recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Samantha Hayes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mya Friese, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg's win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Teutopolis, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Teutopolis has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Teutopolis' way against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Teutopolis made off with an 11-5 win.
