Basketball Recap: Veterans Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Tristen Abner and Jaivyon Dawson

Veterans suffered their biggest loss since January 10th on Friday. They lost 80-58 to the Lee County Trojans. The Warhawks have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Veterans' loss came despite strong showings from Jaivyon Dawson and Tristen Abner. Dawson went 6 of 7 on his way to 15 points, while Abner almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds. Abner has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 11 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Sweenor, who posted 15 points.

Lee County had a senior duo take command as Matthew Hardwick almost dropped a double-double with 25 points and nine rebounds and Braden Moore went 9 for 12 en route to 24 points. With that strong performance, Moore is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. Josiah Franklin was another key player, putting up eight points.

Veterans' defeat dropped their record down to 14-11. As for Lee County, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Looking ahead, Veterans will challenge Thomas County Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Veterans' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five games. As for Lee County, they have already played their next contest, an 80-45 victory against Coffee on the 8th.
