Softball Recap: Polo Marcos vs. South Beloit Sobos

Polo's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They blew past the South Beloit Sobos 12-4. Considering the Marcos' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Cheyenna (Chey) Wilkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 13 Ks.

At the plate, Polo let Izabella (Bella) Witkowski and Camrynn (Cam) Jones run wild. Witkowski went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Jones went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Jones has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Avalyn Henry, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two doubles.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Polo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Beloit only managed six hits.

Polo's win bumped their record up to 5-14. As for South Beloit, they dropped their record down to 9-9 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Polo will head out to square off against Milledgeville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for South Beloit, they will host Hiawatha at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
