Basketball Recap: Kaiya Downing Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Shawnee Mission North

On Monday, the Atchison Phoenix didn't have too much breathing room in their game against the Shawnee Mission North Bison, but they still walked away with a 46-42 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Phoenix.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Atchison to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaiya Downing, who went 6 for 8 on her way to 12 points and six rebounds. Ashlyn Housh was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Atchison's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-4. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 28.7 points per game. As for Shawnee Mission North, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.

Atchison will be playing at home against Highland Park at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Highland Park will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Atchison surely won't give up without a fight. As for Shawnee Mission North, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 52-43 victory against Christ Prep Academy on the 21st.
