Basketball Recap: Hatch Valley Comes Up Short

Hatch Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 64-46 to the Cobre Indians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 61-18 last Friday.

Despite the loss, Hatch Valley still got an impressive performance from Omar Gonzalez, who went 9-for-13 to rack up 18 points and seven rebounds. Those 18 points gave Gonzalez a new career-high. Demarcus Alaniz was another key player, putting up eight points.

Zavin Guck continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cobre, almost dropping a triple-double with 28 points, 11 boards, and nine steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Guck has scored at least a third of Cobre's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Izon Guck, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Hatch Valley's loss dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Cobre, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season.

Hatch Valley has already played their next match, a 67-36 defeat against Hot Springs on the 20th. As for Cobre, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-35 win against Socorro on the 20th.
