Softball Recap: Bethany Community Comes Up Short

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Bethany Community's offense. They came up short against the Rockingham County Cougars on Wednesday, falling 9-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Wolves' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Peyton Weavil was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits. Weavil was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

Bethany Community's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Rockingham County, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 12-1.

Looking ahead, Bethany Community will venture away from home to challenge McMichael at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Phoenix's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Wolves' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Rockingham County, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Rockingham County Cougars challenge Eastern Guilford Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
