Hug hasn't had much luck against McQueen recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Hug Hawks will be taking part in a tournament against the McQueen Lancers at 9:00 a.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Hug managed to keep up with Eureka until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Hug might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Eureka an easy 49-28 victory. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while the Vandals are ranked 15th).
Despite the defeat, Hug got top-tier performance from Cori Carrier, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 71.4% of Hug's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, McQueen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Galena an easy 70-46 win.
Hug will have to contain Brandee Teschera as she made an impact in McQueen's last game. She had 12 points along with six boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave Teschera a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Izzy Richards, who posted seven points and five rebounds.
Hug now has a losing record at 3-4. As for McQueen, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Hug just can't miss this season, having made 47.2% of their field goals per game. It's a different story for McQueen, though, as they've only made 24.5% of their shots this season. Given Hug's sizable advantage in that area, McQueen will need to find a way to close that gap.
Hug was dealt a bruising 47-18 loss at the hands of McQueen in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Thankfully for Hug, Caitlin Hilson (who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
