Zachary Huizar and Jonathan Castro provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Estancia. The connection went for 68 yards, the longest such play in Orange Coast this season.
Calvary Chapel scaled the state rankings by moving to 459 from 487 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles were able to move up by defeating Laguna Beach 62-56.
Danny Mattero threw for 506 yards and 5 touchdowns.
Nathan Lancaster was a force in the backfield as the Breakers lost to Calvary Chapel.
Nick Meldrum was the best wideout in the league this week as Chris Cox's team defeated Laguna Beach. Meldrum racked up 9 receptions for 122 yards. Luke Kaeser helped Calvary Chapel's passing attack out by catching 9 balls for 112 yards.
The Eagles' Mattero and Joey Cox led Orange Coast in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Mattero has thrown for 2,240 yards this season, while Cox has 48 catches for 699 yards. Corey Brown's team's Lancaster leads the league in rushing yards with 1,924.
Costa Mesa's Crenshaw Oronde is a mere 76 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Oronde has rushed for 924 yards on 120 carries so far this year.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when the Eagles and the Mustangs face off next week.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Costa Mesa takes on Calvary Chapel. As it stands, Wally Grant's team is in third, while the Eagles are in first.
