Basketball Recap: Mckenzie Jepson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lehi over Westlake

Lehi was the 48-43 winner over Westlake when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Lehi Pioneers fell just short of the Westlake Thunder by a score of 49-47 on Tuesday.

Lehi's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mckenzie Jepson, who posted eight points in addition to six rebounds and six steals. Jepson is becoming a predictor of Lehi's success: when she posts at least three steals the team is 6-2 (and 5-7 when she doesn't). Cali Ashton was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

Westlake found their leader in sophomore Avery Thompson, who scored 13 points along with six boards and three steals. CJ Cox also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Lehi dropped their record down to 11-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Westlake, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.

Lehi has already played their next contest, a 56-54 victory against Skyridge on the 7th. As for Westlake, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-37 win against Pleasant Grove on the 7th.
