Football Recap: Paxton Comes Up Short at Home Against Hay Springs

Paxton unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 46-21 to the Hay Springs Hawks on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 28-14 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Hay Springs' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tripp Buettner led the charge by rushing for 61 yards and two TDs, while also throwing for 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only six passes. Buettner also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making seven total tackles and defending three passes. Another player making a difference was Jaydub Turman, who rushed for 30 yards and one score.

Looking ahead, Paxton will head out to take on South Platte at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hay Springs, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Potter-Dix on September 12.
