Nucla is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will welcome the Ignacio Bobcats at 2:00 p.m. Nucla will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Nucla is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell 11-8 to Cedaredge on Friday.
Paxtin Caruso made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Josh Platt also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, Ignacio had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Bears as they made off with a 10-3 victory. Considering the Bobcats have won four matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Gabe A made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). A was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ambrose V, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Ignacio is undefeated when V posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Joesph A was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.
Ignacio was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Ignacio's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Nucla, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Nucla has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ignacio struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Nucla suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Ignacio when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
