Baseball Game Preview: Union Grove Broncos vs. Catholic Memorial Crusaders

The Union Grove Broncos will take on the Catholic Memorial Crusaders at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Union Grove fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Westosha Central on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 4-3. The Broncos have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Cody Ashburn was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, Leo Weist made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple and one RBI. Ethan Meves was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Catholic Memorial was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 10-7 to Marquette University.

Catholic Memorial saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cal Weber, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Union Grove now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Catholic Memorial, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
