Baseball Recap: Southwest SD Gets the Win

Southwest SD's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Castle Park Trojans, sneaking past 8-6. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 17-2 victory last Thursday.

Armando Argueta III and Sebestian Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Argueta III pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Meanwhile, Martinez struck out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Argueta III went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run, while Martinez went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Martinez is becoming a predictor of Southwest SD's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 9-12-1 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aquiles Lugo, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Lewis, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Southwest SD kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 5-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Southwest SD's record is now 14-12-1. As for Castle Park, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-20.

As of now, neither Southwest SD nor the Trojans have any future games scheduled.
