Baseball Game Preview: Bryan Station Defenders vs. Sayre Spartans

The Bryan Station Defenders will take on the Sayre Spartans at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Saturday, Bryan Station narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Tates Creek 5-4. That's two games straight that the Defenders have won by just one run.

Samuel Wilkerson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Bryan Station is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-8 otherwise. Wilkerson was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

Wilkerson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Chayavone Robinson, who went 1-for-2 with two runs. Eli Hale also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Bryan Station hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Sayre faced Woodford County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Spartans came out on top against the Yellowjackets by a score of 7-4. The victory was nothing new for the Spartans as they're now sitting on four straight.

Sayre also got a great performance from Elliott Jansky as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Jansky has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

Bryan Station's win bumped their record up to 7-9. As for Sayre, they pushed their record up to 20-3 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
