Softball Recap: Portales Beats Clovis for Their Third Straight Win

Portales entered their tilt with Clovis on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 16-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won six matches by ten runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Annaleah Lujan, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, five RBI, and two runs. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maria Lujan, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Annaleah wasn't the only one making solid contact: Portales kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clovis only managed eight hits.

Portales pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Clovis, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Portales has already played their next contest, a 6-2 loss against Dexter on the 11th. As for Clovis, they will welcome Goddard at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rockets have averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
