Softball Recap: Westville's Run of Five Straight Wins Now Over

Westville dropped their record down to 8-2 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They came up short against the South Central Satellites, falling 14-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Blackhawks were not able to get on the board.

As for South Central, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-3-1. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For South Central's part, Lexi Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Johnson has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, South Central got a massive performance out of Maddy Cleek, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave Cleek a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Valerie Horne, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Westville and South Central should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. The Blackhawks (ranked 74th) will meet River Valley (ranked 354th) at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, South Central will challenge Culver Community at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank advantage (84 vs. 218).
