AAA District 11 recap September 17, 2013
Will Harmon and Tracy Green provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Houston. The connection went for 74 yards, the longest such play in AAA District 11 this season.
Ravenwood and LaVergne played the closest game in the league this week, with Ravenwood eventually emerging with a 30-27 victory.
Caleb Hollis put up the best numbers through the air as Independence fell to Beech. He finished with 13 completions for 207 yards and 3 touchdowns. Hollis' favorite target this week was Vic Wharton III, who caught 4 passes for 101 yards.
Austin Winstead made the biggest impact on defense this week as Franklin topped McGavock. The 5-foot-11 defensive back pulled down 2 interceptions.
Otis Gerron was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 28 carries, he ran for 205 yards as Dickson County lost to the Mustangs. Teammate Isaiah Burns added to the ground attack by rushing for 51 yards.
Green was the best receiver in AAA District 11 this week as the Cougars lost to Houston. Green tallied 2 receptions for 130 yards. Gerron helped Dickson County's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 51 yards.
He went 13-22 with 4 interceptions.
The Eagles' Hollis and Wharton III have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Hollis has thrown for 760 yards this season, while Wharton III has 17 catches for 333 yards. Gerron from Dickson County leads the league in rushing with 352 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Independence takes on the Raptors. Scott Blade's team's offense has recorded 154 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Ravenwood has permitted only 33 on the year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Will Hester's team takes on the Eagles. The Raptors are currently in first, while Independence is in third.
Centennial took down Clarksville 45-14 last week, the largest margin of any game.
