Preview: Holy Cross Indians vs. Newport Wildcats

The Holy Cross Indians will head out on the road to face off against the Newport Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Holy Cross is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.

Holy Cross pushed their score all the way to 42 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Newport by a score of 44-42.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Donovan Ambrocio, who threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns on only 19 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Ulysses Porter also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.

Holy Cross has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Newport, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-3.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's contest: Holy Cross has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 162.8 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Newport, though, as they've been averaging only 76 per game. How will Newport fare against such a dominant running game?

Holy Cross couldn't quite finish off Newport in their previous meeting on Friday and fell 44-42. Can Holy Cross avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
